I haven't read the regular Spider-Man series in years (though that will eventually change, now that I have the Amazing Spider-Man Complete Collection DVD-ROM), but I'm really digging the short-lived Tangled Web series. The idea of the series is that each issue focusses on someone tangentially related to the web-crawler, but that Spider-Man himself rarely appears. In the third trade paperback collection, we get day-in-the-life stories about a super-villain's son, a bar where Spider-Man's adversaries hang out between jobs, a great Tombstone story about life behind bars, and (my favorite of the bunch) a story about Crusher Hogan, the wrestler that Spider-Man beats to win a cash prize way back in his first appearance (the scene is also in the movie). Good stuff!
