Holiday comic book specials are always light-hearted affairs--the super heroes having to fill in for Santa is a story I've seen far too often. Sometimes they're even annoying over-sentimental. I think the best of the lot I've read is the GLX-Mas Special, featuring that perennial third-string super team, the Great Lakes Avengers. This is a very funny, off-beat comic (obviously out of continuity) that manages to avoid being sappy. Squirrel-Girl single-handedly defeats both MODOK and Thanos, Doorman tries and fails miserably to gain his father's respect, and super-hero's corpse which is burning up from orbital re-entry is interpreted as a beautiful Christmas shooting star.
"Better not tell the guys, though. I mean, just look at 'em. And what with all we've been through we could use a happy ending. Even a creepy fake one."
