The Quotable Slayer [Buffy]

The Quotable Slayer

Compiled by Micol Ostow & Steven Brezenoff (2003)

RATING: 3/5 Stakes

DUST-JACKET SUMMARY: "Funny, scary, pithy, profound . . . Buffy the Vampire Slayer has delighted its legions of fans over seven seasons with its quickfire dialogue and offbeat insights into the human--and non-human--condition. Now for all lovers of Buffy's wicked wordplay comes an exhaustive collection of the sharpest, most telling and often poignant quotes from the Emmy-nominated television show. Categorized by character and subject and fully illustrated in both black and white and colour, this crucial compendium of wit and wisdom is a book which will be referred to again and again."

REVIEW

This 260-page book delivers on its promise by including hundreds of quotes from Buffy, organized in short chapters by subject (Slayer, Watcher, etc.) or topic ("Sex and Dating", "Friendship", etc.). Oddly enough, there's no table of contents or index, so finding a particular quote could be rather laborious. The book includes a handful of black-and-white publicity photos and an 8-page color insert section of stills from the series. Although flipping through the book and reading quotes at random can be fun, the lack of finding tools makes it impractical as a reference--especially in light of the fact that so much of this material is in on the Internet anyway.
