Fantasy Football 2010 Week 1

A big 91 to 68 win to start off Week 1, and I feel confident I have a strong team. Tom Brady and Wes Welker delivered big, as did the Jets defense. Terrell Owens and Jermichael Finley underperformed, but I had a big margin for error so everything worked out okay. The only opposing player of note was Miles Austin's 20 points.

The Wife's team also won big--is there an intra-family playoff game in the near future?

ACCELERATED SUN RUNNERS (91 points)

QB Tom Brady 22 points
RB Ryan Mathews 5 points
RB Ahmad Bradshaw 12 points
RB/WR Donald Driver 9 points
WR Wes Welker 18 points
WR Terrell Owens 5 points
TE Jermichael Finley 4 points
D/ST Jets 12 points
Ryan Longwell 4 points

KY COOKS BROWNS (68 points)

QB Matt Schaub 6 points
RB Maurice Jones-Drew 10 points
RB Tim Hightower 11 points
RB/WR Jonathan Stewart 1 point
WR Miles Austin 20 points
WR Steve Smith 4 points
TE Jason Witten 2 points
D/ST Cowboys 5 points
K Rob Bironas 9 points

I managed to squeak out a win myself. Of the 10 teams I was actually 4th in scoring and one guy had 144 points. I don't know how much different the scoring in Yahoo is vs. your league, but anyway...

My Team
Drew Brees (QB) 27.5 pts
Reggie Wayne (WR) 18.5 pts
Michael Crabtree (WR) 2.0 pts
Jamaal Charles (RB) 15.5 pts
Ahmad Bradshaw (RB) 13.0 pts
Wes Welker (WR) 22.0 pts
Garrett Hartley (K) 2.0 pts
New Orleans (DEF) 9.0 pts
Total 109.5 pts

Opponent
Aaron Rodgers (QB) 21.5 pts
DeSean Jackson (WR) 6.0 pts
Chad Ochocinco (WR) 27.0 pts
Steven Jackson (RB) 10.0 pts
Clinton Portis (RB) 6.5 pts
Antonio Gates (TE) 15.5 pts
Josh Scobee (K) 7.0 pts
NY Jets (DEF) 12.0 pts
Total 105.5 pts

Crabtree did nothing for me ... and I was afraid Bradshaw might not either with 10 carries for 7 yards at one point ... but the other guy had a couple of poor performances either. Going into the final game it was only a 4 pt gap and when Gates scored I fell behind until Charles put me back ahead. Pretty exciting...

This week I swapped kickers for Neil Rackers and I traded a bench player for Darren McFadden (RB). I'm not sure if I'll replace one of my backs with him yet, and I'd like to move Crabtree out for a while but don't have a good replacement lined up for him. Mark Clayton from StL is available ... and I thought about looking into GB's backup running back now that their starter is out all year. WR is my weak position beyond my big two though I have some people that should perform so maybe they'll turn it around... (Sam Bradford in StL is also available at QB...perhaps better to have then McNabb???)

Next week's matchup looks like one I should win on paper ... but you know how that goes...

What ya think?

Hey Bal, that was a close game but congrats on the win. I agree with you that Crabtree should be benched for a while, but like you said, it's all about finding a good sub. Good foresight on Jamaal Charles, btw--I had never really heard of him until he broke that long run on Monday night. As for Darren McFadden, The Wife started him last week and was pretty pleased.

I'm happy that he did well...considering I mainly picked him because his last name is the same as my maiden name.....though I had heard his name mentioned frequently enough during last season to know he wasn't bad.

And, let's face it, my QB is Peyton Manning, so there you go....
